How we verify Rufus guidance
Every default, label and version claim on USB Field Notes is traced to a primary source, and each page says which release it was checked against.
Sources, in order of weight
- The source code at a release tag. Control labels come from the program's English string file, and defaults from the code that sets them. The current pages cite release 4.15, checked on 2026-09-27, and link each fact to its file and line.
- The changelog and release notes. Any claim that a feature arrived or changed in a given release links to that release.
- The GitHub release. File names, sizes and SHA-256 digests are read from the release data GitHub publishes, not typed by hand.
- The winget manifest and official FAQ. The Microsoft winget manifest confirms the package ID, type and file hashes; the official FAQ covers boot modes and troubleshooting.
What we do not claim
The team has not written and boot-tested a USB drive on every combination of ISO and firmware described here. Where a result depends on the target PC, such as whether a drive boots, the pages say so and give the check to run. The screenshots show release 3.20; each caption names that build and what differs in the checked release.
Corrections and review
Each new release triggers a comparison of the cited source files. Unchanged files move the checked version forward; changed ones trigger a re-read before the pages are updated. Reported errors are checked against the tagged source and fixed on the affected page. See contact.
