About this Rufus guide
USB Field Notes is a small independent editorial team that writes task guides for Rufus, the free Windows program for bootable USB drives.
Checked against Rufus 4.15, released June 30, 2026
Who publishes it
The guides are written and maintained by the USB Field Notes editorial team. The team is not affiliated with Pete Batard or Akeo Consulting, which make and sign the program, and it does not host, repackage or modify any file. Every download link and command on the site points at an official channel: the official site, the GitHub release, the Microsoft winget package, or the Microsoft Store listing.
How facts are checked
Defaults, labels and behavior come from the program's own source code at a release tag, not from memory or third-party articles. The current pages were checked against release 4.15 on 2026-09-27. Each fact links to the file and line it came from, and version-specific claims link to the release notes that introduced them. File names, sizes and SHA-256 digests come from the GitHub release itself. The editorial policy describes the process and its limits.
When pages are reviewed
Pages are reviewed each time the program ships a new release. A daily job compares the source files the pages cite between the checked release and the new one. If none of them changed, the checked version moves forward; if any did, the pages are re-read and corrected before the next update. When a newer release has shipped since the last review, the date line at the top of each page names both versions.
Independence
